The Regional One Health Nurse Residency Program is designed to empower, engage and educate new nurses. Expert facilitators will deliver the UHC/AACN Nurse Residency Program™ along with our local academic partner, The University of Memphis. The UHC/AACN Nurse Residency Program™, the nation’s top nurse residency curriculum, is an evidence-based curriculum that meets national residency accreditation standards.

Regional One Health Nurse Residency Program consists of a series of learning and work experiences designed to assist the new graduate nurse in the transition to their first professional role and become leaders at the patient’s bedside. The core curriculum topics of the UHC/AACN program focus on:

  • Leadership– Leadership, an essential nursing role function, is demonstrated by the planning, implementation, and coordination of care on behalf of the patient, family, or others significant to the patient.
  • Patient Outcomes– The program is designed to give the resident the skills to manage patient care for optimal patient outcomes. The resident uses case studies and examples from clinical practice to understand the impact of actions on patient outcomes, as well as the effect of system issues on care delivery and outcomes. The resident takes initiative to participate in quality improvement efforts.
  • Professional Role– The nurse is in a unique position to be involved with the patient and family in very intimate circumstances, up to and including the end of life. The resident recognizes that clinical decision making reflects ethics and values as well as science and technology. The resident is sensitive to and respects patients and families and their values and health practices. The nurse is prepared to work with and care for people while demonstrating sensitivity to such factors as age, gender, religion, culture, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, vulnerability, sexual orientation, and lifestyle choice.
  • Evidence Based Practice– The nurse must have current knowledge of best patient care practices and must be able to use evidence from multiple sources, including nursing research. The residency program is designed to help the resident apply the concepts of evidence-based practice and identify its importance in the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
