Regional One Health was recently recognized as a Champion of the Week by CHAMPS (Communities and Hospitals Advancing Maternity Practices), a breastfeeding-focused initiative geared toward improving maternal and child health outcomes through the promotion of Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative practices. Regional One Health is one of the largest hospitals currently enrolled in the CHAMPS Initiative working to earn the Baby Friendly designation.
In May, Regional One Health hosted a Train the Trainer session on the Baby Friendly required competencies with CHAMPS educators, and 100 percent of participants completed the follow-up work within one month. The Train the Trainers program requires 4-5 hours of skills practice, including watching videos, practicing on models, and finally practicing each skill with a live mother-baby couplet, observed by a preceptor. After these hours are complete, the participant is approved as having completed their requirement for skills’ training, and are prepared to precept other nurses. A total of 32 preceptors were trained within one month.
