Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Service at Regional One Health is hosting a free Caregiver’s Workshop on Friday, October 9. TBI doesn’t just happen to the patient; it happens to the entire family. Individuals who care for survivors of TBI best care for others when they themselves are nurtured. It is important for the caregivers to find a community of others who understand their situation and support one another.
Pam Bryan, a featured speaker at the workshop, has been caring for her son since he was injured in a car accident 20 years ago. Bryan shared that her son’s doctor said to her just weeks after her son’s injury, “Mom, this is going to be a long journey and John will need you every step of the way. Please take care of yourself.” She has remembered those words and shares her time with others as a way to give back to others. Bryan said, “Sometimes you just need to be reminded to take care of yourself, that others are there for you and care about you, mainly to let others know they are not alone in their journey.”
The workshop will be held Friday, October 9, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, at Bellevue Baptist Church on Appling Road. There is NO CHARGE to attend.
