Program Overview

The ASHP Accredited Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Pharmacy Residency in Critical Care is a minimum of 2000 hours of training (contact) time over 50 weeks. The program is structured to provide training in a broad spectrum of patient categories with emphasis on the critically and acutely ill hospitalized patient. This well established program with nationally recognized, professional active preceptors marked its 25 anniversary in 2012.

Experiences are offered in:

Trauma ICU ~3.5 months (not consecutive)
Nutrition Support ~3.5 months (not consecutive)
Electives 3 months
Orientation/Training 1 month (July)
Research/Clinical Cross Coverage 1 month (Dec)

Available electives include: medicine ICU, burn ICU, neuro ICU, cardiology, nephrology, HIV clinic, transplantation, pediatric nutrition, or additional core rotations (e.g., trauma ICU or nutrition support).

Collateral activities throughout the residency program include drug information, pharmacokinetic/ anticoagulation service, medical usage evaluation/quality improvement, inpatient pharmacy services, nutrition support weekend coverage, and research projects.

Residents have the opportunity to enroll in the University of Tennessee Teaching and Learning Program and are awarded a certificate upon successful program completion.
