When I started Primary Care Specialists in 1992, it was the realization of a dream since my younger days growing up in Salisbury, North Carolina, where I idolized our family doctor. It became an aspiration that stayed with me through my education and early career in New York. I looked to the South as a destination where I could build a family medicine practice that could make a real difference. So my wife and I moved to Memphis, where I’ve had the pleasure to serve the community for over 25 years.
Primary Care Specialists is excited about the opportunities for our patients with a new alignment with Regional One Health. Our providers use a team-based approach to care delivery for all of our patients, and we believe joining the Regional One Health team will enable us to elevate that service.
We provide the first contact for people with undiagnosed health concerns as well as continued care for a variety of medical conditions. In addition to family and internal medicine, we provide well-woman and pediatric care, minor medical procedures, and urgent care. Our location in the heart of the city has provided the opportunity to reach many Memphians across a wide spectrum of health needs. Primary Care Specialists is honored to celebrate our 25th year providing health care to the Memphis community with this new partnership with Regional One Health, the oldest hospital in the state of Tennessee. I’m impressed with Regional One Health’s leadership as well as their nearly 3,000 employees.
Regional One Health has had an historical mission as a safety net hospital for some of the community’s most critical needs. Primary Care Specialists believes strong primary care provides the community with a similar critical service: decreasing the need for last-minute health care with a concentration on wellness, preventative health interventions and patient access, thus allowing Regional One Health to handle their trauma and other critical patient care.
Our patients are the ultimate beneficiaries with added services such as Regional One Health’s outpatient specialties. I’m particularly excited about the East Campus where our patients will find a range of services in a convenient location, including physical rehabilitation, an imaging center, pharmacy, women’s services, urology and a multispecialty care site. That’s a great one-stop shop of services for patients who live in that part of our community. And the work being done through ONE Health could not have come at a better time.
This partnership enables Regional One Health and Primary Care Specialists together to be an even stronger player in the Memphis market. Primary Care Specialists brings a private practice efficiency model. We thrive on efficient, patient-centered care and know together we can enhance our models of care that will benefit our entire Mid-South region.
