Martin D. Fleming, MD, FACS is a board-certified surgical oncologist at Regional One Health. He specializes in the surgical treatment of breast cancer, gastrointestinal and peritoneal based malignancies, hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers, melanoma and soft tissue sarcomas.
After earning his medical degree at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Dr. Fleming completed his residency and internship in general surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center-Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He also held a fellowship in surgical oncology at Medical College of Virginia-Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond.
Dr. Fleming has a wealth of patient care experience, having practiced as a surgical oncologist in the Memphis area since 1993. He has earned numerous “Best Doctors in America” awards.
He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Breast Surgeons and American Medical Association. He is a previous president of the Memphis and Shelby County Medical Society and served as Physician Representative to the Tennessee Health Services & Development Agency.
Dr. Fleming is division chief for surgical oncology at UTHSC and a professor in the department of surgery. Under his leadership the division has grown into a multidisciplinary group with a variety of subspecialties to serve patients from throughout the Mid-South. His research has been published in leading journals including Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, Journal of the American College of Surgeons and Journal of Clinical Oncology.
In 2017, Dr. Fleming co-founded the UT Global Surgery Institute, which provides opportunities for global surgical experience, thereby furthering the lifesaving mission of UTHSC. The institute has conducted medical missions in Honduras, Iraq, Tanzania, Japan and The Philippines.
As a clinician and an academic, Dr. Fleming is committed to ensuring every patient he treats has access to the latest advances in cancer treatment.
